🎄Review  🎄

Festive fun at its best. There are so many reasons why Santa Steals Christmas should be on your list this year.

Not only is it an inclusive and dyslexia friendly book - it’s also full of wonderful illustrations and a story line that isn’t the usual penguin or bear we so often find in children’s festive tales.

When one helpful elf tries to lend a hand disaster strikes and Christmas could be ruined. But what will happen and can Santa and the team save the day?

A wonderful twist will keep young and old engaged with this fun story of Christmas spirit. The bold illustrations add to the joy and I love that they are inclusive. Can you spot the reindeer wearing glasses of the elf with a cochlear implant?

If you buy one Christmas book for your family this year then I recommend you buy Santa Steals Christmas!!!

Q1: The Cover

You see this book cover on the shelves, why would you consider buying it?

Firstly it’s a book - so I mean no further explanation needed 😂 But there are so many Christmas books out there to choose from - I love the bold writing on this one and the line drawing type scene that’s set. It’s bold but the drawings are subtle so they don’t take away from the title. The clarity makes it stand out to me.

The title is also a definite winner - Santa Steals Christmas - it’s definitely a crime I want solved!

Q2: Foreword

Accessibility and inclusion are important in this story. Do you know what makes this book more inclusive?

Accessible and inclusive books have a huge impact nowadays. As a nursery manager I’m always looking for books that support my children. This book is amazing in so many ways. The use of a dyslexia friendly font and the slightly bigger spacing makes it easier to read the text. (Not just great for children with dyslexia but also any adults with dyslexia or perhaps another processing disorder who are sharing the book with children)

Further more the illustrations make this book more inclusive as well. I love that one of the reindeer has glasses and also that on of the elves has a cochlear implant as well.

Little things like that help children see themselves in books and the world around them and it’s so important.

Can you share with us what your typical Christmas is like?

Christmas is always busy for us. Lots of going round to visit family but always back home for lunch just us. Mr D is responsible for the cooking (because I can’t be trusted and can’t cook 😂)

My favourite part of Christmas though is the traditions. I still have my grandparents decorations and they have to go on the tree each year (even though Mrs Claus is going a bit green) and Christmas Eve is always for making biscuits together with far to much icing and far too many sprinkles ⭐️

Q4: Page 3

Mrs Claus is pictured enjoying a spot of yoga. What do you do to relax?

Sadly yoga has never been my thing - I would love to do it as think it would do me the world of good but I just can’t do the quiet and the balancing. I’d be that person at the back falling over and making a scene.

I do enjoy reading though and always find that helps me relax. Of course if I really need to unwind then singing loudly is the way to go. (Roll on December when we can rock out the Christmas songs)

Q5: page 5

In the story Santa uses an ‘Imposteradar’ to help him find the naughty Santa. If you were to invent a device to help Santa what would it be?

Santa is of course magic ✨ but even with magic it’s got to be busy getting round the whole world in a night. I reckon he needs some kind of slide system for dropping gifts from the sleigh down the chimney and then a a robot arm for collecting the mince pies.

Q6: page 8

The reindeer have some Pun-ny cushions. Give us your best Christmas pun.

I’m rubbish at puns but we do love a bad joke in our house.

‘Just be your elf’

‘On no I think it might reindeer’

What’s your best Christmas pun?
