Emerald and the Ocean Parade

Emerald and The Ocean Parade

By Harriet Muncaster

Review:

Both Little Bookworm (6) and I were both really excited to read this book. It is perfect for her as a read aloud at bedtime. We read a chapter a night and she really enjoyed it. The text is engaging but simple enough for young readers to follow.

Emerald is a really likeable character. I love that she’s not your stereotypical mermaid / princess. She is relatable to the reader and I like the inclusion of a blended family as well.

Little Bookworm enjoyed the story and in particular the part in Mrs Cowrie’s shop which she found funny.

We loved the illustrations (they are all in a wonderful shade of green and black which really stands out on the page). We also liked that the text isn’t all full pages, it is broken up with whole page illustrations and pages where there are small amounts of text. This makes the book more manageable for early readers.

Fans of Isadora Moon will love this latest addition to the group. We can’t wait to find out what Emerald gets up to next.
