Herman Needs a Home

 Herman Needs a Home

By Lucy Noguera

Illustrated by Emma Latham

This is a wonderful tale of two crabs on the hunt for a new home.

As well as just being a lovely story about siblings helping each other out it also looks at the problem of pollution on our beaches.

I shared this story with my little bookworm (age 5). She thoroughly enjoyed the story and the colourful illustrations which had so many things to spot. She was particularly interested in the facts at the end.

Her final thought was ‘When we go to the beach next I’m going to take a black bag so I can tidy up all the rubbish there.’

What better response could there be to such a wonderful story and two loveable characters.

Herman and Hiro are in safe hands with our young people. This is a perfect book for sharing at home but as a teacher would make a wonderful class story as well. I’m already thinking of all the wonderful things we could do - from size, problem solving, patterns, using recycled materials, creating posters to encourage people to take their rubbish home or designing a den to protect the crabs from seagulls. There are so many wonderful opportunities for children to explore and learn based on Herman Needs a Home.
