Review of Books 1 and 2:
Book 1: A Little Hotel in Cornwall
I love that this was a quick read but the plot didn’t feel rushed.I liked Maisie from the start of the book. Initially I felt an element of pity for her - having her dreams pulled away from her and not much hope left. But when she takes a chance and heads to Cornwall a whole new bold, chance taking Maisie appears. That is until she is rescued by Sidney and her pretentious ex boyfriend and his father turn up.
The story had me hoping that things would change for her - that she would take a chance on Cornwall and the people she had met. (It really had me invested especially seen as I knew this was the first in the series so one would assume she stays - even so my heart still urged the outcome on)
This book focuses on Maisie and her story - I really hope that in the other books we learn more about Sidney and the staff at the hotel.
Book 2: A Spirited Girl on Cornish Shores
I enjoyed the second book in this series - it was almost a mini mystery within the wider context of Maisie and her secret identity.
On of the things I wished for after reading book 1 was to find out more about the other employees at the hotel. I am delighted that throughout this book each of the characters became more developed and their characters started to evolve and grow in my mind. I have now learnt that several of the hotels employees have a secret to hide - yet not all of these have been revealed. The suspense has been built up well to hopefully lead in to the next story within the series.
A well written plot I enjoyed the theatrics of this story. Whilst the first book really focused on Maisie and her travels to meet a famous author - this book now has its own story line and mystery. Maisie’s writing is still prominently there but it is not the main focus and I feel that this set up is going to make for an eventful series.
There is something about Sidney that I still can’t put my finger on and I am starting to find myself guessing who the mysterious author could really be - is he hiding in plain sight and what will happen if/when Maisie finds him.
I am definitely looking forward to continuing the adventures and that couldn’t be easier than with a box set of all eight books.
