Review:

This was my first trip to The Little Duck Pond Cafe and it was wonderful.

I initially thought the story would be a lighthearted romance but it turned into so much more.

Rosie Green tackles some really difficult realities through this story including mental health and physical health worries. All of these things play an integral part in the story and are written with informed sensitivity.

Martha’s life is turned upside down when she had a serious accident but when she starts a new job her colleague and new found friend Katrina starts to help her see that she can live a life like she used to.  Through a rollercoaster of emotion we follow Martha and Logan on their hit and miss romance. Will they ever be able to move on from each other?

As well as the positive people within the story there are those characters who are easy to dislike - Lila has a habit of blaming others for her self induced misfortune. But when she sets out ti humiliate Martha she ends up helping her in more ways that she could imagine.

I felt a strong connection to Martha - as someone who had previously suffered with horrific migraines I understood how her character felt and the anxiety around trying anything to prevent them. It was refreshing to be able to read a lead character and be able to think ‘I get that - it’s true’. I also liked that Rosie Green hadn’t trivialised the anxiety of the characters. Their feelings were recognised in the story as serious and worthy.

This was not the lighthearted rom com I initially expected but I loved it so much more. It struck a balance between romance and seriousness that I’ve not seen before and I am definitely eager to read more books in the series.
