There are so many wonderful picture books for Christmas that it’s hard to know where to start.
I’ve tried to pick out a few that have proved to be firm favourites with the little bookworms in my life.
Monster Christmas by Giles Andreae and Nikki Dyson
We have loved this story at bedtime and it has been loved just as much in nursery. Monster Christmas is a wonderfully fun book about kindness, friendship and not judging others on the way they look. Full of bold illustrations and flowing rhyming text this book is perfect for sharing with young children who will delight in the joy of Monster Christmas. A perfect Christmas read that should be under every tree! π
Who Will You Meet on Santa Claus Street? by Gareth Peter and Tim Budgen
There’s an Elf for everyone in this happy go lucky book that will definitely get you in the festive spirit. Gareth and Tim have created a master piece of fun and wrapped it up in this beautiful rhyming text the bounces along down Santa Claus Street. A perfect Christmas read for bedtime and would make a brilliant gift from the elves on Christmas Eve.
There’s No Such Thing as Elves by Lucy Rowland and Katy Halford
If you are looking for festive joy in the form of a book then look no further!!! Perfect for the festive season and with such amazing illustrations. We read it today in nursery and it was loved by the adults as much as the children. We all loved spotting the elves hiding on each page. The adults have declared it the best illustrated book they’ve seen and the children loved it so much we had to read it again as soon as we had finished. I can say no more it is amazing!
Mog’s Christmas and Mog’s Christmas Calamity by Judith Kerr
It wouldn’t be Christmas without reading these two beautiful books by Judith Kerr. There is something so wonderful about the way that Mog’s thoughts are verbalised on the page that just makes me smile everytime I read them. True Christmas classics that will always be loved.
The Christmas Pine π² by Julia Donaldson and Victoria Sanday
This is the most recent addition to my Christmas collection and it really is a keepsake book. It would make the perfect gift and is suitable for older children and adults not just early years. (In fact I think older children might appreciate this one more)
It is a beautiful poem accompanied by the most gorgeous illustrations- delicate but detailed. Telling the story of the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree π as it grows in Norway to its shining glory surround by children singing and lions.
Betty and the Yeti by Ella Burfoot
Not technically a Christmas book but by far one of my favourites for this time of year. I have loved this book for many years and this week I’ve shared it with little bookworm for the first time. She loved it just as much as I did!
I love the illustrations they remind me a a book I loved as a child. The story is equally as lovely. A tale of friendship and kindness and the amazing mess of children to see the good in others rather than judge them on their appearance or rumours.
Betty and the Yeti is a must read winter tale!
