Review:

We love our Yoto player (yes me as much as Little Bookworm)!! It is definitely one of the best and most used things we have bought her. We bought it about 5 months ago ( she has still been using the music player / light she had as a new born at bed times and after 5 1/2 years even with new batteries it was on its last legs) - we looked for alternatives and came across Yoto.

We compared it with other similar products but went with Yoto on it seeming more grown up - in the hope that it would not become a childish thing as she grew older. There are plenty of cards for younger children but also a great selection for older children as well.

Best Points:

For us these are the main points that make us love Yoto:

  • It’s portable - you can easily move it anywhere in the house and it was a perfect addition to take on holiday. ( there is also a mini version available)
  • The cover - the cover adds colour, protection and creates a perfect carry handle. (These are extra but you don’t have to have one - older children probably wouldn’t need it)
  • There is a night light ( and you can change the colour of it using the app) Just tip the player forward and on comes the night light
  • The digital display - acts as a clock and you can set sleep/wake up times on it. If the suns not up don’t get out of bed. The display also shows pictures linked to the card that is playing.
  • There is  huge choice of cards for all ages
  • The cards at like credit cards so easy to store in a small space (I was out off by similar products with bulky items that would need storing)
  • The App - I can not shout this enough. The app is amazing!!! - you can listen to your cards from it but the biggest win - I can control the Yoto player from my phone. You can set a limit so it turns off and if little bookworm turns it on in her sleep ( which she does often) I can turn it off without getting out of bed myself. (Perfect for these cold winter nights)

The Cards:

We started with the Julia Donaldson collection and the Starter pack of cards.

Immediately- The Story Shed Podcast became a huge hit. She listened to it morning and night and in no time at all could perform several of the stories by heart. We also had to re enact the conversations after each story.

A second favourite (and now the go to story) was Hotel Flamingo by Alex Millway. This is a chapter book and she loves it (the rest of the series has been ordered ready for Christmas) - it follows the story of a run down hotel for animals and the teams efforts to make it the great hotel it once was. Team work makes the dream work in this one.

We have also started to team our Yoto Player up with our play set ups adding to and prolonging the screen free entertainment time.
